Our milestones
1995
The Swiss Farmers’ Union founds the internet pioneer agri.ch, giving people in rural regions the opportunity to surf the web at a local rate. This helps to increase Switzerland’s connectivity with the World Wide Web.
2001
agri.ch changes ownership and is renamed green.ch. One year later, green.ch enters the future-oriented data center business.
2010
Digitalization continues apace. green.ch is now offering attractive fiber-optic subscriptions with a bandwidth of 20,000 kbit/s.
2010
The company Green Datacenter emerges from green.ch’s data center operation – with the vision of advancing Switzerland as a data hub.
2018
IT resources increasingly go virtual and Infrastructure-as-a-Service emerges. Green Datacenter continues to drive innovation, laying the foundations for Switzerland’s first high-performance data center in Lupfig (AG).
2021
green.ch and Green Datacenter reinforce their long-standing cooperation and will henceforth act as one brand under the name Green. Green is already planning new high-performance data centers and developing pioneering data center and IT solutions for greater sustainability.
2021
Ground-breaking ceremony for the Metro-Campus Zurich in Dielsdorf in September 2021. Green expands data center capacity by a further 35 MW. The first of three high-performance data centers will go into operation in December 2022. With a connection to the Energie360 heating network and highly efficient operation, the data centers are among the most sustainable in Switzerland.
2023
The first data center on the Metro Campus Zurich is in operation. Construction work on the south office building then begins. In October, four excavators drive up at the same time and start excavating for data centers N and O.
2024
Green submits the planning application for the construction of a further data center on the Metro-Campus Zurich West. Datacenter 4 will increase the capacity on the campus by 12 MW. Due to the high demand, Green is already evaluating additional locations.
