Order a domain in my.green.ch
With the my.green.ch customer portal, you can search for and register a new domain.
A domain is a registered name in the Domain Name System (DNS). Registering a domain does not automatically include a website, hosting or an email service.
Before ordering
Before ordering, check the following points:
- the desired domain name
- the desired domain extension (TLD)
- the availability of the domain
- the completeness and accuracy of your contact details
- possible additional requirements for the selected domain extension
Contact details are required for registration. These are stored in a so-called handle. A handle contains the contact details of a person or company and can be assigned to a domain in my.green.ch.
The domain owner contact (Owner-C) refers to the legal owner of the domain.
Further information about handles and domain owner contacts can be found in the following article.

Order a new domain
- Log in to my.green.ch with your customer account.
- Click on «New subscription».
- Select «Register domain».
- Enter the desired domain name.
- Check the availability of the domain.
- Follow the remaining steps in the ordering process.
- Complete the order.
After the order has been placed, the registration is submitted to the responsible registry. A domain is only considered registered once the responsible registry has successfully confirmed the registration.
If the domain is already registered
If the desired domain is already taken, you can choose a different domain or a different domain extension, depending on the situation.
If the domain already belongs to you and is registered with another registrar, you can order a transfer to Green. For most domain extensions, you will need an AuthCode, also known as a Transfer Authorization Code, TransAuthCode or transfer code. You can obtain this code from your current registrar.
Further information about transferring an existing domain can be found in the following article.

Special requirements for individual domain extensions
Depending on the domain extension, additional information, documents or confirmations may be required. These may include proof of identity, commercial register details, company numbers, local contact persons or additional confirmations.
Some domain extensions are subject to special allocation guidelines. Geographical names, protected terms or certain namespaces may be subject to additional checks. The applicable requirements depend on the selected domain extension and the response from the responsible registry.

Domain validation and verification
For certain domain extensions or registries, verification may be required after ordering. In this case, you will receive an email with further instructions.
Therefore, check whether you have received a verification email and complete the confirmation requested in it.
Note: If the registration is not completed despite providing all required information and completing the confirmation, contact Support. The exact reason may need to be clarified with the responsible registry.
Further information about domain validations and verification emails can be found in the following article.

Premium domains
Some domain names are classified as premium domains by the responsible registry. Such domains may incur significantly higher registration and renewal costs.
The display of a domain during the ordering process is a preliminary check. It does not guarantee final availability or the final price. These details are only confirmed by the responsible registry.
Green does not offer premium domains. If a domain is classified as a premium domain by the responsible registry, the registration may therefore be rejected.

After registration
After successful registration, you can, for example:
- assign the domain to hosting
- use it for a website
- use it for an email service
- redirect it to another website
- configure it via DNS management
A registered domain is not automatically connected to hosting. If you want to use the domain for a website, you must assign it to the desired hosting or connect it to an external service.

Nameservers and DNS
Registering a domain with Green does not automatically mean that the Green nameservers are used. After registration, the domain can be used with Green's default nameservers or delegated to external nameservers.
Many functions in the customer portal require the domain to use the Green nameservers. These may include DNS management, domain forwarding, Dynamic DNS and other DNS-based functions.
If you use external nameservers, you must configure the DNS settings with the respective DNS provider.
