If signing in to webmail works but the account cannot be set up in Outlook, check the configuration and login details saved in Outlook.
Outlook Uses an Incorrect or Outdated Configuration
Outlook may use outdated or incorrect information through the Microsoft Autodiscover service. As a result, Outlook may try to connect the mailbox using an unsuitable configuration.
Typical signs include:
- Outlook reports that the mailbox has been temporarily moved to a Microsoft Exchange server.
- The account only works temporarily after being set up again.
- Outlook uses an incorrect sender address.
- Setup as an Exchange account fails.
- Outlook reverts to an old configuration.
You can find further information about Autodiscover issues in the following article:
https://www.green.ch/en/hex-outlook-autodiscover-issue
Repeated Password Prompts
If Outlook repeatedly asks for the password, first check the sign-in through webmail. If signing in there works, outdated login details stored locally in Windows or Outlook may be the cause.
You can find further information in the following article:
https://www.green.ch/en/hosted-exchange-outlook-windows-keeps-asking-for-a-password
If the password is no longer known or can no longer be used, reset it:
https://www.green.ch/en/reset-email-password-hosted-exchange
Outlook (New) on Windows
Hosted Exchange accounts that are not provided directly by Microsoft cannot be set up with full Exchange functionality in Outlook (New). They can only be connected using POP or IMAP.
When an account is set up using POP or IMAP, Exchange functions such as calendar, contact and task synchronisation are not available.
Use Outlook Classic if you need full Exchange functionality.
